PowerPC

The PowerPC architecture is the result of collaboration between Apple, IBM, and Motorola to create an advanced, yet relatively cheap processor for the mass market. The PowerPC chip is used principally in IBM's RS/6000 workstation and in Apple Computer's Macintosh. The three developing companies, calling themselves the PowerPC Alliance, have made the PowerPC architecture an open standard, inviting other companies to build the architecture further.
